The last bits from my first designs for Randy Cunningham, the Sorcerer and Heidi (at least that was her name when I designed her).

I think it goes without saying that the Sorcerer was my favorite guy to work on.  Pretty sure he was just supposed to be some kind of old timey magician from Japan but he’s just a monster now.  Was really into the overly distorted proportions for the guy, tiny legs and arms that would most likely drag on the floor if not held up, and then there’s his crazy long neck.  Not a whole lot left of whatever human he maybe used to be.

Heidi is not a monster, so I want nothing to do with her.

Update:  THE SORCERER is voiced by TIM CURRY!

HEIDI WEINERMAN is still named Heidi and is voiced by Cassie Scerbo!

Pretty cool to see the beginnings of the show!  From these designs to the official premiere date on September 17th, 2012, Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja has had a lot of epic contributions from totally Bruce people.  This show is going to be THE CHEESE!

MY SHOW!

One of the only peripheral characters I did for Randy Cunningham was this “band geek” that eventually gets mutated into a hulking horror.  Along with being the only side character I did for my first pass it was also the only monster.  At a later point I went back and did about 25 creature designs for later use in the show, but this band monster and the Sorcerer were the only inhuman looking things I got to do early on.

When the Titmouse guys asked if I wanted to design this stuff I pretty much said “Monsters and robots.  That’s what I want to do.”  Doing Randy and Howard and such was fun enough, but I’m happiest when things get a bit more monstrous and robotic.

I guess, in the show, the Sorcerer has the power to transform people and things into monster versions of themselves, so this was my go at what that might result in.  Figured some common element would be this black mass that sorta operated the victim, but that was probably too bizarre for a kids’ show.  I’m not the best person to decide that!  It was pretty much your general purpose supernatural Miyazaki goo.

You can see this guy, human and monster versions, a bit in the title sequence of the show.

This is Bucky Hensletter!  He’s the #1 triangle player in the Norrisville Highschool band!  We love Jhonen’s design for this guy and as you can see, he’s got some VERY distinct features… He’s voiced by Scott Menville who is one of the best in the business when it comes to creating voices that match the design and mannerisms of an original character.

Bucky Hensletter - We salute you!

So stoked that we have Jhonen Vasquez pushing the show now as well!  RANDY!

Hey guys!  I know I’ve been pimping my stuff an awful lot lately, but THE KARADA is something that I’ve been working on with some friends for a long while. I would really appreciate it if you could just vote for it.  No big deal, no pressure, no sign up needed.  Just the twitter or facebook like is all I am asking.
The more you can do, the more I will gratefully grovel and thank you… and if we get in the top 7, we can then make the chapters and then the TV show and webseries will follow!  Yay promotion!

I was a guest on another edition of Doug Benson’s podcast- Doug Loves Movies. This time my fellow guests were the hilarious Amy Schumer and Bert Kreischer. You can listen by streaming above or clicking any of the photos to download it on iTunes. The photo below should be enough to understand that this is NSFW.

Here are my other Doug Loves Movies Appearances

DLM- Samm Levine, David Huntsberger, Ben Schwartz

DLM- TJ Miller, Paul F. Tompkins, Ben Schwartz

DLM- Cast of Parks and Recreation (Can’t find a link to this one)

I was going to go to this but that night I was stuck at work until 10:30 doing ADR scripts for Megan Mullally for our show that Ben stars in (Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja have you heard of it? Have you seen me pimping it?)

So my point is, you should listen to it and acknowledge the funny and send Ben your support and love and tell all your friends about how radical he is and then listen to his voice on our show that Sneak Peeks this Monday (8/13) on Disney XD at 9pm.  Or you can watch it on Watch Disney XD starting Saturday 8/11!

Now that the promotion campaign has begun for Randy Cunningham 9th Grade Ninja (check out the various promo clips on YouTube) I thought it was a good time to post some fan art for the upcoming series.
This a movie poster I created for episode 101, “Last Stall On The Left”, which will be airing in a sneak peek on August 13 at 9pm. Spread the word, and don’t miss it! The show officially begins September 17th at 7pm.

My friend and co-worker Jack Cusumano made this totally Bruce poster / piece of fan art for our new show RANDY CUNNINGHAM: 9th Grade Ninja.  Reblog, make your own Ninja fan art and watch the sneak peek on August 13th at 9pm and then watch it when it officially premieres on Sept. 17th. We are so honkin’ stoked about this show and we’re sure you’ll like it too. It has jokes for adults in a show that kids will love too. Can you say “NINJA TRIPPING BALLS?!”  Because Randy Cunningham… er… the Ninja can.

Something that gets lost in “Family Guy” and other adult animated comedies (especially the 15-minute long ones on Adult Swim) are stories with a lot of heart.

I don’t hear people off the Internet talk about “Futurama” much, but I caught a rerun of a “Jurassic Bark” and couldn’t bring myself to watch the ending again. So I shut the TV off and was just left trying to think the last time an animated anything, other than a Pixar movie, moved me like that.

It’s been a while. I still don’t have an answer. What I can say if you ever find yourself in need to cry “Up” style at an animated series, just watch “Jurassic Bark” and “The Luck of the Fryrish” episodes of “Futurama,” which will cause you to:

A) Sob hysterically for a cartoon dog.

B) Consider giving your sibling a call or make you wish you had a sibling.

I never even had a dog in my life and I still feel bad about how “Jurassic Bark” ended. That enduring loyalty and attachment Seymour had for Fry. Oof. That cartoon dog is more loyal than most human beings I know in real life.

And yet if you sit there and try to figure out what it is exactly about the structure of the episode that tugs at those little heart strings it seems almost simplistic and mystical at the same time. There doesn’t have to be a grand dramatic moment just a slight misdirection and reveal.

To me, “Futurama” is one of the most underrated shows of the early aughts and I’m glad it has comeback in some capacity. But these early run episodes will always be my favorites.

Agreed on all fronts.  The “luck of the fryish” and “jurassic bark” have moved me to tears on multiple occasions.  Yeah. Fuck you.  When Seymour just waits… yerp.  It’s hard to not well up and cry one out.
